Nickel(ii) Hydroxide, also known by its chemical formula Ni(OH)2, is a green solid with the formula Ni(OH). Although stable at room temperatures and pressure conditions, at higher temperatures it undergoes dehydration reactions which cause it to change into nickel oxide (NiO).

Nickel(ii) Hydroxide is nearly insoluble in water but can be dispersed with strong acids or bases. It has a relative density of about 4.3 and remains chemically stable in most environments, although in an oxidizing atmosphere it could oxidize and form nickel oxide.

From a chemical viewpoint, Nickel(ii) Hydroxide is an amphoteric compound with strong basic properties that reacts with acids to produce salts while reacting with strong bases to form nickel hydroxide. Furthermore, ammonia water reacts with it to form ammonia-nickel complex or reacting with sodium hydroxide under strong alkaline conditions to form soluble nickel salts. Electrochemistry wise, it exhibits excellent properties – particularly as an anode material in nickel-hydrogen batteries where it boasts excellent energy storage capacity and cycle life as an anode material.
